“Are you ready?”

It seems such an innocuous question if asked prior to going out to a meeting or an evening out – unless, of course, it is asked by an impatient husband.

However, even that scenario with its inherent possibilities, pales into insignificance against the same question asked in the context of a person’s eternal destiny and destination. The “Are you ready” question, when asked in the light of the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, takes on far more urgent appeal.

It is very clear that no one knows exactly WHEN he is coming again. However, those of us who are Christ followers, do know and firmly believe that He is coming back and that we must be ready for that time.

Volumes have been written about the second advent of Jesus Christ and so many pointers have already been fulfilled, that it is difficult to believe that there are people who remain either totally ignorant of the fact or who reject outright any such event ever occurring.

I am reminded that Jesus Himself spoke warnings about His second coming when he said such things as “As in the days of Noah”.

Yes, take a moment to reflect on that statement.

God gave humanity in that day every chance to believe through Noah, “ a preacher of righteousness” and yet, when the time came only eight people were saved from the flood. Is there any parallel for the people of the twenty first century? I believe there is – not only in the words just quoted but in so many other parts of scripture. There is “more than enough” written but people still choose to go their own way, trusting in self, money or possibly some form of false god, believing more in the ‘wise-men’ of climate change than in THE ‘wise-man’ who is going to change the climate in ways they cannot even begin to imagine.

The question remains – for Christ followers as much as those who are not yet there. “Are you ready?” For he will come as a thief in the night, when you least expect – unless you are looking for His appearance. May we all be ready.
